It is with great pleasure that I present to you this first trip of the 2019 season. Bring out your warmest clothes and your hottest beverages, cause we are going on Viking Ventures in Söderäsen National Park over in Sweden and the weather is gonna be cold - but not you, if you come prepared! MEETING PLACE, TIME AND TRANSPORT
The official meeting place and time will be the Skäralid entrance to the park at 18:00 on Friday. For those who are using public transport, there is a connection from Copenhagen Central that departs at 16.07 via Lund and Stehag.
I expect that we will be back at the same entrance Sunday at 13, and there is a bus back at 13.16.

On Friday night we only have to walk 1-2 km from Skäralid (NE corner) south to the"Killahuset" cabin, where we will spend the first night.
Saturday we will hike app. 5 km to Odensjön in the SE corner of the park (near Röstånga) and have lunch and hopefully do some hobo fishing with fishing rods that we will make ourselves. After lunch we will walk another 5 km NW to Liagården where we will camp in tents and/or shelter. We will also try and find time to work on our campfire techniques. And I know the map says there is a cabin there, but it has been torn down due to its pitiful state, so dont get your hopes up :)
Sunday morning we will take an amazing hike through the beautiful gorge that starts right off the camp and goes in a Northeastern direction all the way back up to the Skäralid entrance. It is a rocky hike down there, so learn from the mistakes of my mom and do not wear sneakers or you are going to get sore feet!

It goes without saying that you should bring warm clothes - layers and layers. Do not fret if you do not have underwear in the finest merino wool (although I can recommend it) or a top notch shell jacket as long as you wear layers so you can adjust your temperature by adding or removing clothes and as long as you have enough clothes to put on that you can keep warm when you sit still (pulling out your sleeping bag is also an option for this purpose). .
What is more important is that your sleeping bag and your sleeping mat can handle the low temperature. If your sleeping bag does not have a very low comfort temperature, bring the specs to the shop and ask about a heat liner, that may be enough to fix it. You also want a sleeping mat with a sufficient R-value - that means the sleeping mats ability to isolate you from the cold ground/floor. Your sleeping bag, no matter how good it is, does not isolate where the fibers or feathers are pressed flat by your body weight. The alternative is using a cheaper sleeping mat with an extra foil layered sleeping mat underneath or even an emergency foil blanket to reflect some of your body heat back to you however, I have not tried this solution myself so I cannot say exactly how well it works.
For the second night - however you prefer spending the night with no pre-existing shelter. There is a shelter at the camp site, but it cannot be booked so you cannot be sure there is room for you.
After sign-up we will discuss if we wanna delegate food duties or just bring our own food. Both solutions are an interesting challenge when it is cold!
